Tax Accountant

We are seeking an accountant familiar with fuel taxes. This position is responsible for the review of motor fuels excise and sales tax returns for a multi-state fueling company. Preparation of monthly and quarterly tax returns is performed mainly by an outside party but the tax accountant reviews the returns for accuracy and completeness and takes the lead on making sure data from relevant systems is correct. This includes making judgments on the tax treatment of various transaction types, relevant tax rates (that change frequently) and verifying tax accuracy on customer invoices. This position also addresses questions from sales and operations related to taxes, files returns in new jurisdictions before training outside service on preparation, and, helps out on a variety of other tasks. Position directly reports to the VP of Finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Taxation
  • Manage relationship with third party tax return preparation consultants.
  • Ensure timely filing of approximately 30 monthly fuel tax returns.
  • Monitor tax rates and law changes.
  • Verify tax accuracy on sales invoices by reviewing new customers each week and validating taxes.
  • Engage in the customer setup process.
  • Prepare (as needed) and tax returns.
  • Prepare tax transactions and journal entries.
  • Ensure timely resolution of notices and correspondence from tax authorities.
  • Research tax regulations. Maintain tax rates in database.
  • Ensure all necessary supplier licenses/permits are in place.
  • Facilitate routine tax audits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Experience as general ledger or staff accountant.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent 2 to 4 years’ experience or a combination of both.
  • Good work ethic, detail orientation, and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, analyze data, and resolve issues independently.
  • Team player, able to work in a cooperative environment.

  • Accounts Receivable Specialist-Collector

    Diesel Direct continues to grow, we are currently seeking a full-time accounts receivable specialist responsible for invoice management, application, and processing of daily payments to customer accounts.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contact customers for past due –delinquent invoices for payment.
  • Investigate -resolve any billing issues related to past due items.
  • Resolve issues relating to backdated invoices, duplicate invoice numbers, and payments to the wrong company.
  • Receive payments via check, ACH, credit card charge and direct bank draft. Scan checks received into bank portal.
  • E-mail and call clients on payment application questions.
  • Manage parent/child relationship of customers in AR-Great Plains system.
  • Attend the accounts receivable discussion meetings and contribute to process improvements and issues causing AR payment and payment application delays.
  • Miscellaneous duties such as accounts reconciliation, filing, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Accounts Receivable Director.

  • Microsoft Great Plains experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years Accounts Receivable experience
  • Prior Accounts Receivable experience in high volume transaction environment involving credit card payments, electronic payments, check receipts and bulk cash application.
  • Detail orientation and strong time management skills.
  • Able to learn quickly, resolve issues independently.
  • Team player, able to work in a cooperative environment, while also being able to work independently.

  • CDL Drivers

    Diesel Direct Inc. is seeking qualified CDL Drivers at various locations. Candidates must be able to drive multiple vehicles safely, follow time schedules and be detail oriented, organized and punctual.  Prior fleet fueling experience would be a plus but not required.  Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and possess and maintain a safe driving record. Applicants must have a class B commercial driver’s license with a tanker and hazmat endorsement, TWIC Card, Medical Card and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
