Spotlighting Mitsie Murphy

April 26, 2021

Diesel Direct’s Employee Spotlight is a peer-to-peer recognition program that enables our team to acknowledge their coworkers that they feel exemplify our core values everyday by demonstrating qualities such as positive attitude, resourcefulness, excellent customer service, etc.

Mitsie Murphy is the driving force behind our value enabled applications for our customers and employees. Her dedication to the effectiveness of our employees and applications is second to none, and she always engages people with an enthusiastic attitude.

Let’s talk about your role. What is your job title and what you do at Diesel Direct?

I’m the Director of Applications and Client Support. I oversee the development of all software applications in house or outsource. As the head of the developing team and analysis, I’m responsible for the health of the software that we maintain, as well as the infrastructure which involves cyber security, hardware, computers, etc. There is a client support piece where I’m responsible for any IT infrastructure that correlates with our customers or client partners—what tools people might want to use and interact with for the website. I get to work with everyone which is nice.

What were you doing before Diesel Direct?

6 years ago, I was working as a senior analyst. I was a member of the development team and help desk. I worked at a fairly large company, so I didn’t get to be as hands on as much as I do here. I still worked with applications.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

A traditional day starts with a couple of skype messages early in the morning with our team offshore. Then I do the support ticket and ensure that my team of 6 people are taken care of. I check in with executive team to see what projects they have going on. Work closely with the finance department to run reports and data analytics. Data crunching has become my day to day. Thankfully, I have a really good support team. By afternoon, I shift all my attention to the west coast team.

How would you describe the work culture of your team?

It’s great, we have an awesome team. I’d say we have the best department, haha. It’s honestly a good group, they work well together, and they work well with the business. They are dedicated. These are the type of people who will not hesitate to jump in, even on weekends sometimes, whenever necessary. They have a great grasp of the business priority and mission statement. I couldn’t do half of what I do if it wasn’t for them. The best part is that they’re independent workers with the work maturity where they can tell me how everything is going, so I never have to worry.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Diesel Direct? What is most rewarding about your role?

My favorite thing is the dedication that the company has to me and what I feel is the investment that they’ve made towards me, my goals and my future. The dedication is the biggest value add. To know that I am supported and to have people who are as equally invested in my goals is more than I can ask for. What I love about my day to day is the freedom to explore. To feel like I have a voice, and having the ability to approach the exec team. It’s people saying “what do you think?” and showing me that my opinion matters and that they value my problem solving skill. I love problem solving.

What sort of things do you like to do outside of work?

I’m the one person that has found the end of the Netflix. I watch so much of Netflix and it’s usually the most obscure thing. I have found the end of the Netflix catalogue. A little secret about me is that I can’t get enough really into k-drama. I prefer foreign film or anything in a different language.

What advice would you give to job seekers considering a career path at Diesel Direct?

To work here, you have to be flexible. Flexible in the sense that we are the kind of company where people survive and it’s because we are willing to adapt. You have to be the kind of person who can adapt. Here we’re always willing to flow with the market and to be there for the customers. We’re willing to do what it takes to give that customer service and in order to do that then every employee have to have that mindset.
